• I am constantly over dispatched, yet my supervisors say that PAS says different. Anyways, it's too much work for me to finish before some business' close, I've been sheeting these pkgs up as closed, is this right?
Actually, according to the methods if you deliver during a business lunch period(You must honor business hrs, so re-attempt this one) or after hours when they are closed you should sheet the pkgs up as missed. I cannot stress enough to all drivers, get to know your methods. Ask management for a copy or e-mail us here at this site and we'll see if we can help you. Above all do your job without any shortcuts and work safe, if you doubt anything ask your shop steward or this site and I'm sure we'll get you the answer.(Click on Everyday Routine)
• I've heard of the "7 deadly sins" from drivers saying that these are the infractions that we can get fired immediately. I've never seen them in our contract, what are they?
According to Art. 28 Sec 2 of the WRSA it states: 1. proven dishonesty 2. drinking of alcoholic beverages while on duty 3.recklessness resulting in a serious accident while on duty; 4. the carrying of unauthourized passengers; 5. unprovoked assault on an employee or a supervisory employee while on duty; 6. selling, transporting or use of illegal narcotics while in the employment of the Employer; or 7. willfill, wanton or malicious damage to the Employers property, shall be dischargeable offenses without the nececessity of a warning letter being in effect.
• Every morning I see supervisors handling pkgs or even loading cars by themselves. I want to say something but it seems like nothing ever gets done about it. What can I do?
Article 3 Sec 7 NMA states in plain english that supervisors are not to do bargaining unit members work. (thats you and me). The penalty is hrs worked under 2 for p/timers is paid at 1 1/2 hr rate(O/T), over 2 hrs is automatically 4 hrs. Document the who, what, where, when and give it to your shop steward. You should also get your grievance number and keep tabs on the status. Payment should come fairly quickly, with a little prodding. Good luck. Contact this website if you have any problems. We are here to help you 24-7.
• I'm working overtime everyday! Whatever happened to Work, Life, Balance? I have a life outside of UPS, I never see my kids or my spouse. What can I do!?
According to Art. 37 Sec. 1(b) of NMA you are entitled to (2) 8hr day requests per month. You also have the right to verbally or in writing ask to work less overtime hrs. If mangmnt still does not help out, get with your shop steward and file a grievance under this article.
